Until 2018, CIV supported the Cooperative E.S.T.I.A., which over the years has distinguished itself as a model of good practice for the social reintegration of current and former detainees. Its activities cover two specific areas: non-formal education, through theatre, and vocational training, through work.
The rehabilitation of detainees is essential to ensure their effective reintegration into society once the detention period is over. Rehabilitation can include educational, therapeutic and vocational training programmes to help develop the skills and abilities needed to succeed outside of prison.
Bollate prison stands out for its focus on the rehabilitation of detainees through a range of educational and vocational training programmes. For example, the prison offers training courses in IT, mechanics and agriculture, which help detainees acquire useful skills for future employment. In addition, Bollate prison also organises therapy programmes to help detainees manage problems such as addiction and emotional difficulties.
In this context, E.S.T.I.A. works closely with the prison and detaines to provide them with dignity. Acting for evil requires justice; therefore, addressing those who have acted in bad faith must be supported by an educational action that is able to restore the good in people and promote social inclusion for Bollate prison’s detainees.
